The Bacteriological Laboratory, which is part of the University Hospitals of Geneva, is the Regional Competence Center for the primary analysis of bacteriological samples suspicious of a bioterror-related background. Protocols for the detection of bacteria causing anthrax, plague, tularemia and brucellosis have been established in close collaboration with the National Reference Center for Anthrax. Furthermore, there is a strong link between the Bacteriological Laboratory and the Genomic Research Laboratory that is executing basic and applied research projects under joint leadership. Translational research is actively promoted through this channel of cooperation.
